Omniverse ben 10

(sigh) Omniverse is where the Ben 10 franchise really started to degrade (Its ok in my opinion but nothing with the impact the first three series had). This was due to its main writer Dwayne McDuffie passing away (RIP Dwayne). As a result the series was lacking in terms of storyline and really just made things up as they went. However, there was a silver lining in this more cartoon-ish iteration of Ben 10 and that is the VS Battles perspective. That's right Omniverse is where Ben gets most of his overpowered feats from and I'm here to cover them.

Omnitrix

This is the finalized version of the Omnitrix and has been Azmuth's top project for six years before Ben received it at the end of Ultimate Alien. Unfortunately due to Dwayne's tragic death and the new path Omniverse decided to go this is also the most inferior version of the Omnitrix. It has its positives but come on.

For example its transformation times are incredibly flimsy ranging anywhere between 30 seconds and 3 hours (More on that later). If you want an estimated average it is generally about the same time frame as the original Omnitrix (Ben states about "15 minutes or so") but for Rule of Funny the writers decide to just make it up as they go along. Sure the cooldown times are significantly smaller (sometimes Ben can change into another alien immediately after changing back to human but the previous versions could also do this) but considering he can quick change anyway this is still more of a hindrance than a help.

Another feature that makes this version significantly inferior is the holographic interface. Sure it looks cool but it only shows the faces of the aliens and they only have a diameter of about 1.5 cm. Even the prototype Omnitrix showed full body silhouettes. Its no wonder why Ben always ends up selecting the wrong alien.

Additionally Azmuth revealed in For a Few Brains More that because he's a prick he made the interface super sensitive so any time Ben bangs his hand on the Omnitrix, it will set the alien picked to random (which is probably the reason why the time out feature is inconsistent as well).

As shown in Outbreak Azmuth didn't fix the problem that the Omnitrix could be hacked as Dr Psychobos was easily able to hack it to remove the stablizer core. However, it is partially justified when you take into account the fact that Cerebrocrustaceans (such as Dr. Psychobos) typically have an I.Q of one nonillion or 10^30.

In Catfight Blukic and Driba were also able to create a "remote control" to time the Omnitrix out and/or change him into a specific alien form. Again justified due to the fact that Blukic and Driba have quite a bit of experience working on the Omnitrix, being smart enough to solve the above problem. It didn't even work at first and it only served to accomplish the second option rather than just timing him out.

As revealed in Arrested Development this Omnitrix is programmed to work for Ben and ONLY Ben. As such it doesn't alter its size to best fit the wielder because it only has one wielder. Also any changes to Ben's body, such as say altering his age, will render his Omnitrix useless. Fortunately Ben can provide alternate forms of identification such as inputting a code or Ben doing an impression of his regular self or as Ben did in the episode stating his fear of peacocks.

As shown in Store 23 the Omnitrix shares the function that previous functions have had in acting as a communicator wrist watch, though this Omnitrix seems to act more as a phone with it even having voice mail.

As revealed in The Frogs of War: Part 1 the Omnitrix has a randomizer function. This has two different modes. The first one allows Ben to continuously change into different aliens every few minutes. The second mode picks an alien at random for Ben to turn into though Ben can only stay in said form for a very short period of time. However, the former has a rather long recharge time while the latter recharges almost immediately after timing out.

As revealed in The Frogs of War: Part 2 the Omnitrix has a life form lock function which Ben used to stay timed in as Bullfrag so that he could infiltrate the Incurseans. He then disengaged the voice command. The exact code was: Command Code 1010 Tennyson Benjamin Disengage Life-Form Lock so it can be assumed that the code to activate it is simply a matter of replacing 'Disengage' with 'Engage'. This also confirms that the Omnitrix can be activated through voice commands.

One fatal flaw in the Omnitrix is that using a modified DNA Scanner an opponent can revert Ben back to human form as revealed in Return to Forever. However this was due to the fail safe in the Omnitrix (more on that later). While it isn't stated it is implied that the DNA Scanner and the similar technology is used to eradicate aliens and/or turn them into human. As such this was the one case where the prefereble form was Ben's own human body but thats just my theory.

As revealed in Something Zombozo This Way Comes enough impact on the Omnitrix symbol can inadvertently activate the quick change function.

In Mystery, Incorporeal the Omnitrix showed that if it was damaged (or came into contact with magic, you pick), it would create a large explosion of energy while timing him out as the Jury Rigg page shows. This could potentially be another feature of the fail safe in the Omnitrix.

As shown in The Vampire Strikes Back the Omnitrix can also scan and obtain unidentified DNA samples.

In Secret of Dos Santos the Omnitrix was able to allow Ben to speak Spanish.

Now I've been mentioning the Omnitrix's fail safe a bit throughout this blog but its not until the series finale, A New Dawn, that we actually get the gist of it. You see, anytime Ben is about to die the Omnitri will instantly transform him into the alien needed to survive. In this example, Ben was about to die due to a Big Bang created by the Anihilaarg (the same device that destroyed the universe) and the Omnitrix transformed Ben into Feedback who was able to hold it off. There are ways around the fail safe such as atacking Ben's soul or erasing him from existence but this fail safe takes care of 90% of the potential threats Ben could face in his career.

Feedback

Feedback is one of the aliens Ben had unlocked within the 5 year gap between the original series and Alien Force. He is a Conductoid from the Teslavorr Nebula and one of Ben's favorite aliens. Feedback pretty much takes Chromastone's shtick of absorbing energy to use as his own but adds a bit of electrical flair to it. Feedback made his debut in The More Things Change: Part 1.

Feedback was used to fight Malware in The More Things Change: Part 1. He proved agile enough to dodge Malware's attacks before grabbing Malware with his fingers and tendrils, absorbing Malware's energy. He then used this energy to fire an impressive energy blast that sent Malware flying through the forest.
