Ben 10
DISCLAIMER 2: OK I had a lot of stuff for this blog but a certain error happened to blogger and now most of the stuff for AF/UA is gone. So while I did have some incredibly complex paragraphs involving calculations they're mostly gone now and have been replaced by half-arsed content because do you honestly expect me to re-watch the episodes to put things back to the way they were. I won't. Luckily AF/UA focused more on the new aliens so not much has changed.
Ben 10 is a beloved cartoon that could almost be called a classic. It had an interesting premise, unique narrative and though it went through several different artstyles, it still left you wanting more...
Until Cartoon Network decided to turn it into a ******** cash grab! Seriously CN just ****** ******** leave our ******** childhood memories alone and come up with your own **** ideas. I mean would it really be too much to ask if you **************** ************* ************...
5 Hours Later
OK I got that out of my system. As I was saying Ben 10 was a brilliant TV series and there's no such thing as a good TV series without an interesting protagonist. I am of course referring to Benjamin Kirby Tennyson himself.
Background
Ben used to be your average 10-year old boy. You know hated school but went to it anyway, occasionally got bullied and and goes on camping trips. Although he was one of the few kids who actually put others above himself as shown when he tried to stop his local bullies from bullying a kid. All that did was cause the bullies to beat on him but the kid he was trying to save.
During one particular camping trip he had the misfortune (or fortune depending on how you look at it) of finding a watch that could scan aliens and transform him into said aliens. This watch was dubbed the Omnitrix and Ben's first attempt using it nearly caused an entire forest to be burned down. Well when Ben did eventually figure it out, he started using his new found abilities to become a superhero and actually help people instead of in his own words "makes things worse".
Ben was able to lift and fire Max's giant gun to knock Vilgax out while he was distracted.
Ben is a quick learner as after only a few seconds he was able to get the hang of a highly advanced hovercraft. He was able to easily take control of it and was even able to use it to dodge energy attacks. he was even able to outmaneuver the two cultist attacking him and get them stuck in a vat of slime.
Ben is extremely resourceful as shown in Grudge Match where he kills a robot with its own arm and in Camp Fear where he uses the athlete foot powder to kill the giant plant brain guy (This show is so ******* weird).
Ben is also quite intuitive as he knew just what to do to reach the sword of Au Ekhulah in Ultimate Weapon.
Ben also has a hoverboard that he can use and as shown in Tough Luck was able to scale a 100-meter tower.
In A Small Problem the Omnitrix does seem to know when its being used for petty misdeed such as when Ben tried to turn into Ripjaws to scare the lifeguard in letting him into the Rpitide Rapids. Of course the more likely explanation is that the Omnitrix simply malfunctioned (however this malfunction does greatly extend the time limit). However the Omnitrix just might have a mind of its own as at the end of the episode when Ben mentions going 'Four Arms on you [Gwen]" the Omnitrix violently crackles with electricity.
In A Small Problem its shown that if Ben hits the Omnitrix too hard (or hits it against a wooden pole), the Omnitrix will randomize the alien Ben turns into.
As shown in Side Effects Ben's condition affects the aliens he turns into. For example when he's sick his aliens will also be sick rendering them less effective and more vulnerable.
As shown in Secrets the Omnitrix can be manually timed out.
In Secrets high levels of energy affected the Omnitrix and Ben kept transforming into different aliens until he was able to get out of the machine holding him captive.
In The Big Tick despite the Omnitrix timing out a couple minutes earlier, it recharged itself immediately when Ben was in danger. This is shown in a few earlier episodes as well but due to tricky framing and cuts, it was difficult to determine how much time had passed.
In Ghostfreaked Out the Omnitrix protected Ben from possession as he was in one of his alien forms. Even without being in an alien form the Omnitrix allows Ben to resist possession as when Ghostfreak tried to possess him, he was unable to do so for 11.31 seconds which is surprisingly long considering Ghostfreak was able to possess the Thumbskull, Acid Breath, Frightwig, some posh student and even Gwen (who is apparently a master magician) immediatly. It could have been longer but the Omnitrix had recharged (and yes it had only just timed out as well) to give Ben a new alien and its better to have a no possession guarantee than to gamble it all on some theory.
In Dr Animo and the Mutant Ray Ben was able to take the rim off the Omitrix. Unfortunately this caused the Omnitrix to fuse aliens at random (more on that later).
In Back with a Vengeance Ben was able to access Master Control (by accident, mind you). With Master Control he was able to turn into aliens by simply saying their names. He found this out by saying "Uh oh. Please tell me I didn't bust this thing again. Maybe its just some kind of an upgrade" and as soon as he said that last word, you can guess he turned into Upgrade. He then cycled through some of his aliens. In fact he found out that he didn't have to give a command at all. He only had to think of the alien he wanted and the Omnitrix turned him into that alien. This also gave him some pretty good strategies such as using Ripjaws to save a man from drowning and then jumping out to turn into Stinkfly to bring him back onto the boat. Oh and it also doesn't time out so that's not an issue.
In Benwolf the Omnitrix displayed the ability to scan new alien species that are not already in the Codon Stream in which it gets the aliens from so whenever Ben encounters a new species that the Omnitrix doesn't identify as registered DNA, it will scan that alien species and Ben will be able to use this alien from then on (such as a Loboan)
In Under Wraps its revealed that as long as Ben is in alien form he is protected from mutagens such as Corrodium.
As revealed in Secret of the Omnitrix the Omnitrix has a self destruct mechanism which will destroy not only itself but whoever is wearing it at the time. During the countdown the Omnitrix will start randomly generating shockwaves. When the Omnitrix does detonate, " the explosion will cause an energy ripple that will literally rip apart the universe". But before you start thinking that Ben can use this to kamikaze any victory so to that the battle ends in a tie, there's two problem's with this: 1) Ben is nowhere near that stupid and 2) the Omnitrix has to charge up for a few does to reach this point of destruction.
As revealed in Secret of the Omnitrix, the Omnitrix has a built in homing device which was used to guide a ship through an asteroid belt.
In Secret of the Omnitrix the Omnitrix fired a green energy beam. However, this may have been due to how close Azmuth was to it and the Omnitrix was simply lighting the way.
As I mentioned above, Ben nearly caused a forest to burn down and he used this alien to accomplish such a feat. Though while I used the word 'accidentally', Ben was messing around with Heatblast and actually was trying to destroy trees with his fire blasts. Luckily Heatblast was able to start another forest fire so that the two could snuff each other out.
Now because Heatblast is practically a living flame, he is of course immune to heat and is adempt in pyrokinesis to a certain degree. This of course makes him great for rescuing people from burning buildings which is exactly what he does in the episode Washington B.C. He can also control his own body temperature so as not to harm the people he's saving (yet this doesn't help when he's sitting down in the RV and proceeds to burn the chairs).
In Permanent Retirement Heatblast was used against the Parasites but his flames just made them stronger but he was able to withsatnd the Limax's beatdown giving Gwen and Max enough time to rescue the real victims. When Gwen realized that the Parasites hated water, Heatblast was able to fire an accurate fire blast at some water pipes directly overhead and made the Limax dissolve from the artificial rain.
Because most aquariums use soda-lime glass, the minimum temperature that Heatblast would have had to use to melt and mold the glass is 1000 degrees Celsius to merely soften the glass but around 1500 degrees Celsius would have been required to melt it and this was all done in the span of seconds. Sure one can question that it would have taken much longer to cool down but meh Cartoon Physics.
In Kevin 11 Heatblast was used against Kevin (the intended alien was Four Arms) and Kevin was able to absorb part of Heatblast's energy. Despite Heatblast being 100% Pyronite and Kevin only being mutated into one Kevin held the upper hand for their fight. Luckily when the trains came Heatblast was able to shoot flames and melt the controls for the tracks so that the tracks switched (not sure how that works). Heatblast also showed the ability to encase himself in a vortex of fire so that he could jump onto the train.
In Side Effects despite having a cold Heatblast was able to temporarily utilize cryokiniesis and was able to shoot out beams of cold at his opponent.
Heatblast was then able to create a gigantic ice sculpture to get down to the nuclear core.
Heatblast was able to create an ice ball which froze the bug man completely.
Heatblast was then able to cool down the nuclear core (which was on the verge of a meltdown). A nuclear core can get as hot as 600 degrees Celcius and this is especially impressive considering he only had six seconds to do so.
In Secrets Heatblast was used to help save a city from being attacked by Vilgax's droids. He was able to fly miles in seconds by propelling himself toward the city. Heatblast was then able to shoot fireballs at the droids while airborn. Heatblast was able to slow his descent by propelling fire in front of him.
Heatblast then found himself surrounded by droids (at least 30) and was able to finish them all off in the matter of seconds.
Heatblast was then caught in some kind of energy net and was confronted by Vilgax. When Vilgax stated he was going to retrieve the Omnitrix, Heatblast flared out with all his might and was able to melt the net that was holding him captive.
Heatblast then confronted Vilgax but none of his attacks did any damage. Heatblast was then thrown through several buildings and was just winded but hadn't taken any major damage.
In an attempt to slow Vilgax down Heatblast melted the entire road. Asphalt softens at a temperature of 150 degrees but Heatblast would have had to be creating much higher temperatures when you account for both the surface area and how quickly he accomplished this feat. Too bad it only deterred Vilgax for a few moments.
Heatblast was used to escape Vilgax's self-destructing ship at the end of the episode.
In Midnight Madness a hypnotized Heatblast was used to steal materials for Sublimino. During this state he was easily able to melt a 5 meter hole in the wall. He then threw a fireball at Max and Gwen proving that Ben wasn't in control anymore. The military arrived to arrest him but because he was in a warehouse full of propene tanks, he blew the whole warehouse to pieces.
In Super Alien Hero Buddies Heatblast was used to save Kangaroo Commando. He did this by creting a vortex of fire as high as a two-story building to grab KC from falling to his death and he made sure to regulate the temperature of the flames (because it wouldn't do to have scorch marks on the guy you saved).
He then absorbed the building fire into himself.
He then engaged KC in a 'fake' fight and Heatblast demonstrated the ability to create fireworks (or smokeworks, I guess).
KC then 'tricked' him into falling into the water but its pretty obvious that Heatblast was holding back for the entire fight.
In Monster Weather despite the fact that it was raining, Heatblast was still hot enough to create a flaming sword and cut off a water monster's arm.
He was able to cut off another arm and was able to generate enough heat to evaporate a good portion of it. He was doing pretty well until the water monster smacked him into the ground. Heatblast then spun himself fast enough to go in Gwen's words "supernova hot" so that he could evaporate the giant water monster and turn it into steam.
If Heatblast really was going "supernova hot" he would have been at minimum 100 billion kelvin which is 6,000 times hotter than the sun's core. But Heatblast is obviously not going this hot so I actually calculated the amount of heat he would have to output to evaporate S.A.M. Bear in mind that this is a very, very, very rough approximation; I only measured the main body of S.A.M, excluding its tentacles and the clouds it was able to generate. Also I pixel measured using a person it had absorbed so yeah. Anyway by using pixel measuring I found that S.A.M had an approximate height of 30.6 meters and length of 40.5 meters giving his main body an area of 1239.3 meters squared. Using the spherical volume formula (because the actual formula I wanted to use is for freaking physicists), I found that S.A.M's volume is approximately 34,782 cubic meters. Using an online converter I found that S.A.M's body is made up of approximately 34,782,732,000 grams of water. This allows me to finally use the heat capacity formula which I rearranged to find the amount of heat required to evaporate this much water. The rearranged formula (according to my much smarter friend) is q (heat) = s (specific heat capacity) * m (mass in grams) * deltaT (change in temperature). Therefore q = 4.18 * 34,782,732,000 * 78.5. This means 11,413,257,851,160 Joules of heat energy would be required to bring S.A.M's main body to its boiling point of 100 degrees Celsius and Heatblast was able to accomplish this in 12 seconds. Using another online converter I found that this amount of energy in temperature would be approximately 6,009,822,883 degrees Celcius. While this is not as hot as the aforementioned "supernova" heat, this is still approximately 1,091,702 times hotter than the sun itself and 400 times hotter than the sun's core. Inputting the total Joules into yet another online calculator, I find that the destructive capacity of this attack would be equal to 2,727 tons of TnT.
In Don't Drink the Water a baby Heatblast was used against Hex and while at first his attacks did nothing, Gwen's taunts caused him to go "supernova hot".
This results in Hex's defeat and Heatblast pretty much incinerates the entire cavern protecting the Fountain of Youth (which he also evaporated).
In Big Fat Alien Wedding Heatblast was used against the sludge puppies. He was able to throw a fire ball and them but they regenerated and threw him into and across the lake (and beyond).
After the sludge puppies had him cornered Heatblast went hot enough to harden mud nearly instantaneously (btw this is after he's been soaked in the lake). He used this opportunity to get away.
After this the two sludge puppies merged into one and grabbed Heatblast and put him inside them. Unfortunately it didn't work as they wanted and Heatblast turned so hot that he started turning the mud into molten lava.
This turned the sludge monster into stone (Not really. It just dried them so much that they appeared to be stone) and Heatblast just punched his way out.
In Secret of the Omnitrix Heatblast displayed the ability to throw fire disks at his opponent.
Heatblast then generated a constant streak of flames which were rising in heat to overload Animo's DNA machine.
In Victor: The Spoils Heatblast was used to fight Victor. He was agile enough to dodge Victor's attacks and was able to use Fire Punch by heating up his fists. He finished the fight by melting a tank over Victor's head. Even then Victor was still able to move but thankfully Gwen used a cooling spell.
Strengths and Abilities
Ben himself has shown to be a quick and creative thinker as shown when he uses one of the golf clubs in his cart to getaway from the Limax or when he uses his grandpa's cold medicine to lure the bugs away from the RV.

Ben is also quite intuitive as he knew just what to do to reach the sword of Au Ekhulah in Ultimate Weapon.
Ben also has a hoverboard that he can use and as shown in Tough Luck was able to scale a 100-meter tower.
In Game Over Ben was adept in swordsmanship.Though his abilities had been enhanced in the video game so its difficult to tell if Ben actually is adept in swordsmanship and even then Ben doesn't actually own a sword in the real world anyway.
In The Unaturals Ben proved to be excellent at baseball and had excellent reflexes. He was able to hit a ball from one of the world's best pitchers (not a hyperbole. It was a robot that had the stats of all the best baseball players in the world and the entire team were actually better than any team in baseball history).
In Ready to Rumble Ben is shown to be extremely observant. From just one sentence where its heard that the mob is "going to turn her into an end table", Ben realized that they were hiding out at an old lumber mill. He got this by Max saying he wanted to see said lumber mill at the start of the episode and this is impressive considering this would be something Ben would classify as "boring" or "lame" and not pay any attention to whatsoever (However when asked "how many guys do you manage [how many aliens do you have]?" Ben said 10 when at the time he had 16).
In Secret of the Omnitrix Ben was able to quickly figure out how to fly a gyro pod and this is impressive due to gyro pods not even being made for humans. They're made for gelatinous beings such as Gluto.
In the Omniverse episode Trouble Helix 11 year old Ben was completely unharmed after being crushed under rubble.
Weaknesses
Ben is rather useless without the Omnitrix. Sure he's got a couple tricks up his sleeve though he generally relies on the Omnitrix for all things combat related and if it malfunctions then he has to look for alternatives using the resources on hand.
As shown in Midnight Madness Ben is vulnerable to hypnosis and this affects his aliens as well. Fortunately the sound of the Omnitrix timing out snaps him out of the trance until he falls asleep again.

Omnitrix
Throughout the series the Omnitrix has been called "The most powerful device in the universe" and while there have been multiple incarnations of the Omnitrix over the years, each being more improved over the last; for now, I'm just sticking to the Original Omnitrix that appeared in the first series. I'll cover the aliens used only in the first series as well (but don't worry I'll cover Ben's arsenal in the succeeding series' eventually). Anyway the Original Omnitrix was a powerful weapon to say the least and was able to transform Ben into 10 different aliens. However there was a catch. This incarnation of the Omnitrix had a very strict time limit to say the least going as low as a few minutes of action. Though the more consistent limit is about 5-10 minutes (which includes Ben's usage off-screen). However the recharge period can be as short as a couple of minutes as shown in Secrets. Of course Ben can also time out willingly as he does when he's normally finished most fights and/or decides to show off.
As shown in Kevin 11 the Omnitrix has a failsafe to prevent anyone from removing it forcefully. If anyone does like Kevin, it will generate a shockwave capable of destroying an entire bridge. Vilgax was actually harmed by the shockwave when he tried to take it.
As shown in The Alliance any time Ben activates the Omnitrix, it can be tracked by those with the right technology.

Heatblast
I think its a good idea to start with the very first alien Ben turned into: Heatblast.
In Tourist Trap Heatblast was used to stop Megawhatt and his gigantic robot from destroying the dam. Though Megawhatt's response was to just punch a gigantic hole in the dam that it caused Heatblast to lose his balance; forcing him to run down the steep wall before sliding down to create enough friction to slow down. This accidentally caused Heatblast to discover a new ability in which he could surf on pieces of earth to temporarily grant him the power of flight.
Heatblast then engaged in combat with Megawhatt but was completely thrown off by Megawhatt's ability to create an electromagnetic field which caused him to miss his target completely and hit ground. Megawhatt then punched Heatblast with presumably the same force he used to punch a hole in the dam. Unfortunately the only case of deliberately destroying an otherwise sound dam was Operation Chastise which involved putting a bomb on the other side of the dam (where the water is) so that the amount of force plus the sheer volume of water overcame it.
After Gwen soaked Megawhatt with a fire hose and distracted it, Heatblast was able to create a gigantic ball of plasma to destroy and overload the robot's circuits (I think?) and temporarily stun Megawhatt.
Although this just caused the army of Megawhatts to get angry and rush at him all at once only for Heatblast to use instant transmission and get onto the platform that they originally were on.
Of course Ben being Ben continued to taunt the Megawhatt army and this was able to trick them into rushing into a gigantic fish bowl. Heatblast was then able to melt and mold the glass so that the Megawhatt army couldn't escape.
In The Alliance Heatblast was used to try and stop a landslide (the intended alien was Four Arms). He tried to melt rock but as it turns out rock is a really good insulator of heat so when that failed he opted for a different idea and melted a bunch of ambulances (conveniently parked in a line)) so that they would melt into a wall to stop the landslide from hurting anyone (well apart from anyone in need of an ambulance).
Though the direction of the rocks was just redirected and Heatblast had to literally burn down a bridge to prevent any casualties.
Heatblast isn't given any time to rest because Rojo (merged with Vilgax's drone) picks him up and throws him into a truck before spamming lasers on him. It might be of note that these are the same lasers that destroyed two police cars and a roof but because of Heatblast's physiology, it's not really a durability feat. Heatblast tricks Rojo into charging at him before exloding the gasoline truck near her, throwing her up into the air.
